Sai Yok National Park

A beautiful waterfall in Kanchanaburi is at Sai Yok.

This is a pretty water game a few hours from Bangkok. The spot is easy to access since it is just beside the road from the city to the 3 pagoda pass.

Sai Yok National Park

The ride from Bangkok is only about 3 hours and that means if the weather is fine the sun shines and maybe weekend many people are around. Some big buses, plenty of minibuses and vans are parked and behind the usual souvenir shops is a breathtaking panorama. A beautiful site which should be included in every trip to the capital, if you wont go there you will miss something. This is close to the Erawan Waterfall. At this place nobody charges entrance fee since it is not integrated into the national park which is further up the road. There is more or less only one high level fall as you can see in the pictures looks real pretty and every day lots of people enjoy their time. The basin is quite large which is a ideal place for swimming, in particular during hot summer time from April to June it's cool and is covered with the shade from the trees.

Just before the water is a marvelous spirit house, with incense burning plus a old locomotive aside the old railway station, that was part of the original "dead railway" built during world war 2.

The dark blue River Kwai behind the opposite side of the road is one of the most famous river in Thailand, here is the Sai Yok Map.

The movie "Bridge over the River Kwai" by David Lean made this place famous, more of the bridge and the history of the River Kwai bridge is here. This is great Thailand outdoors including trekking and rafting, along the river are The falls are just a few km outside of Kanchanaburi and rather a hill where the water runs down the limestone which gives a unique appearance. Several bungalow cluster, guesthouses, hotels and river resorts invite to stay, with Bangkok so near and such a great location good business is almost automatically. The buses come in by the dozen, plenty of Thai tourists enjoy a swim in the basin of the waterfall. Most women splash into the water with the cloth on, its not usual in Thailand to show to much.
